Image: Freya and Freyr

Freya Freyr, 2011 is the first in a series of environment studies taken on Madeline Island part of the Apostle Islands National Park. The title is Norwegian representing the twins in Norse mythology.

This image was created from an original photograph applying digital painting techniques in Corel Painter, and layering and blending in Photoshop. Included in ArtsWest.

I consider my photographic work regional, many with iconic environmental landscapes. These works began as mixed-media compositions incorporating traditional watercolor with traditional photographs, then transformed to traditional watercolor combined with digital printing processes. The work is now completely digital sometimes with simulated watercolor techniques. The transformation to an entirely digital product is perhaps indicative of the technological transformation begun in the 50's with the mainframe computer. To me it represents a crossover immersion of nature and technology, and a continued (though once removed) interest in the grandeur that nature provides.
